Thanks to its rich soil, the Lot region offers some amazing wines that are popular within France and the rest of the world. During your stay with us, a guided tour of the vineyards is an activity not to be missed. Many of the region’s vineyards are certified and produce wines such as the Coteaux du Quercy, the wines of the Côtes du Lot and also the Cahors with its renowned grape variety: Malbec.
The Lot and Garonne offer a variety of wines, red, whites and rosés, that can be paired with other delicacies of the region. With notes of red fruits or spice, soft and complex, these wines with powerful aromas are the result of many years of hard work and perfecting the right growing conditions. Four of these are classified AOC: Buzet, Côte du Brulhois, Côte de Duras and Côte du Marmandais wines, an addition to the region’s already rich culture.
The Lot, with its Label “Vignoble et Découverte”, is a privileged destination and the perfect place for amateur wine lovers to come and discover its vineyards. Just an hour away from the Souillac Golf & Country Club, the wine estates of the Cahors region offer Malbec wine, a historic South West wine mostly famous for its colour, which will charm amateurs and the more seasoned wine connoisseurs. Known internationally as « the black wine », this wine received the AOC label in 1971.
We can recommend many remarkable places for wine tasting. La Maison Georges Vigouroux offers tastings to discover Malbecs from Cahors and Occitanie at the Mercuès Château with its vineyards that extend along the Lot river and bottles its own wine at the château. Multiple discovery packages exist so you can easily enjoy the Lot’s gastronomic delicacies. One of these packages is entitled « Châteaux & Vignobles » and offers a walk and tasting at the Haute Serre Château which also belongs to the Maison Georges Vigouroux.
You can discover these extraordinary wines in many different ways: by car, on foot, by bike or even by boat. A number of circuits exist so that you can take in the scenery whilst you visit the vineyards at your own pace.
